How we started

The society was formed in the early 1970s and operated under the name of
'A Cappella'.  The name was changed to 'Pocklington Singers' in the late 1980s, with
David Lang as Conductor.  A new committee was formed in December 1990, a constitution was drafted and the first AGM of the newly constituted society took place in May 1991.  The constitution set out the purpose of Pocklington Singers and this has remained the same to this day (see Home page).  John Vernon was an early Chairman of the Pocklington Singers, with Mike Toole (our current Chairman) taking over in 2000.  Michael Cooper has been our Conductor/Musical Director since 1993.
